Single Op Unlimited
1055 x 80 = 168,800
21.5 hours / SO1R.
My first serious effort in quite a few years - A frustrating weekend - I
had hoped to get SO2R going with N1MM, but could never get the
additional CW hardware LPT port to work. I tried two brand new ports and
neither would make a waves (continuous or otherwise). K4QPL spent some
time on Saturday walking me through with the setup (TNX Jim), but either
my computer has problems or I got two bad parallel port cards from Tiger
Direct. It was a learning weekend for N1MM, but the real frustration
was many lockups for N1MM. I suspect that I had a setting in the
software wrong and was not getting a correct response from my radio /
telnet, etc. and it would start acting erratically (mouse pointer
jumping all over the screen) then ultimately lock the computer up. I
stopped counting after 6 reboots. At one point I quit in disgust, but
figured I had nothing better to do and tried to salvage the rest of the
contest using a laptop.
Overall band condx. didn't seem too bad for 0 sunspots. Highlight of the
contest was working VY1JA late on Sunday evening for mult 80, then
immediately seeing a packet spot for VY1EI - Two YT QSOs back-to-back!
Shooting "spots in a barrel" was fun, but ultimately took away from the
score since I was doing it on what should have been the run radio. TNX
to K4HA who keeps the W4MR packet and telnet clusters humming along. He
delayed doing needed UPS maintenance so we could finish the contest.
73,
Will
