Thanks Jay, as well as Wes, K4WES, Nate, N4YDU and Bill, K1SE for your 
input.  The consensus is that the main criteria seems the island needs to be 
at least 200 yards from the mainland at low tide. As far as Topsail is 
concerned, it's a very long, narrow island and for sure is an island. 
However, at the drawbridge at Surf City it comes pretty close where there's 
not much more than the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, a lot of salt marsh, 
fast food and beach shops separating it from more salt marsh, fast food and 
beach shops on the mainland. I'm not sure how they classify a causeway. 
Down at the south end where we are it's over a mile to the mainland, but I'm 
not going to bother to reopen the Revolutionary War with the Brits!

There are some islands nearby that do count so maybe will plan a DXpedition 
by boat to one of them next year.
