It was interesting to note that the inverted L SWR as considerably 
higher than normal all summer.

Once it rained the SWR returned to normal.  There are >40 radials of 
various lengths under the antenna.
I really didn't expect dry ground to have any impact.  Wrong.

Without RX antennas, tuned input preamp (a.k.a. poor man's roofing 
filter), and a good audio DSP filter, the IC-706 would have nearly 
useless in this contest.
