Back in the old days Icom put the first stage of audio
amplification in the mic (i.e., IC-730) This required
power, so they put +8VDC on pin 1 for this purpose. 
As time went on, Icom saw the light and put the audio
processing back in the rig like everyone else, but the
+8VDC remains on pin 1 to this day.

You can wire your Heil in without worry, just don’t
wire anything to pin 1!  The warning is there so that
if a non-Icom mic with the same 8 pin round connector
is to be used, make sure that pin 1 isn’t wired so as
not to draw down the +8VDC causing damage to the mic,
or possibly the rig.
