Hey gang! Two weeks ago I held the first Franklinton High School Amateur
Radio Club meeting. About 20 students attended and most seemed genuinely
interested. It proved to be quite a fun 40 minute session. I passed around a
few qsl cards and magazines and I had an HF rig setup with a key connected
to it. I ran a 30 foot wire out of my classroom (three stories up) and to
the delight of me and the youngsters we made a contact on 18 mhz CW with
SV1DPI. I wasn't intending on transmitting, but I gave him a shout and he
came right back. The students were very interested. As he was sending I was
writing it down on the board. They were really engaged...now, if I could
find a way to get my US History students that engaged :-))

Anyone have any good ideas for keeping this alive? Many of the students
expressed a big interest in getting a license, and most were quite intrigued
with learning CW. Who says kids aren't interested in this stuff? I think if
it is presented to them, they will get interested.

73,

Nate/N4YDU
