7 Feb 2002 meeting of NC Chapter PVRC.
5:30 pm Ryan's Steakhouse, Cary, NC.

Attending K2AV; N2NFG, K4CIA, KO7X, K4QPL, W6NWS (Larry, First PVRC
Meeting), N4CW, N4TL, W2CS, K4WES (Wes, First PVRC Meeting), K4HA,
K4MA, K4JA (Paul, down visiting from Virginia), AA4NC, WW4M.

Called to order about 6:15. Introductions and note of first attendees
W6NWS & K4WES. Both live in the general area. Larry has been in the
area since 91. Welcome Larry and Wes. (Guess which one is Wes...)

Also Paul, K4JA down to visit from Tidewater chapter. Wife visiting
the in-laws, and Paul visiting us. Sounds like a plan. Welcome any
time, Paul.

N4CW has returned from the land of hinters. No, REALLY returned.
HOWEVER, his amp failed to fix itself in his absence.

Larry, W6NWS brings tower, KT36XA, 2 el Forty, and rotatable 80 dipole
to the wars. That will do nicely.

N4TL has been down to Florida, same time as the Miami Hamfest. Says
attendance is down to 1/3 of size in times past.

Wes, K4WES, gave us the low down on where he lives, roughly where
15-501 goes over the Haw. He has LAND, and plans TOWERS. Was noted
that he will have tons of advice, help, etc, to help him along. Mainly
an SSB op. Made the mistake of asking whether WriteLog or whatever
other logging program is better. Meeting temporarily suspended for the
usual riot. Gonna hafta put that prohibition on the web page.

W2CS will be doing the 160 CW out at N4AF.

With all the traffic out to Blount's Creek and back we need to start
our own Raleigh-Blount's Creek airline. Gary can run it.

Just in case the FAA does NOT approve, The south-side 264 bypass
around Wilson is well under construction. Just from a gander looks
done this summer or fall. Will save 15-20 minutes on the drive to
N4AF/NY4A by not having to go through Wilson. That should INCREASE the
traffic out to N4AF.

What was that, "Build it and they will come?"

K4HA had a great time at the operation at Topsail. They "done good."
Has a 4 el twenty on the ground at base of tower. Has several
experiments going with this. Listening for subterranean 20m
propagation from Bora Bora, whether the SW noise source is as loud
with beam on the ground, and worm-thermy.

Also notes he has a sked sometimes with K4PB 7168 8:50 pm when it
happens. Guys lissen out for Alan. Was there a day with this?

K4MA headed for 8P9JA. Lissen, spot, work, etc, etc. Anybody who can't
come up with a doctor's excuse for not working him 6 bands gets
flogged next meeting. Free dessert with the flogging tho. Also now
manager of the SSB Sprint. (That's known as self-flogging, but good
luck!)

WW4M out helping at AD4L. Making good progress over there. AD4L still
traveling a lot. Also noted that 4 from chapter were over 250K in SS
wars. Very cool.

AA4NC reporting a 6 meter pipeline opening to UT5 stations. ONLY. A
LOT of questions about did they all sound alike, have identical
chirps, etc. Final consensus was that it was Igor, brother Rani,
sister Tanya, brother Boris, and his other brother Boris.

N2NFG has his tower to 30' and experiencing nosebleeds. But can now
see into neighbor's yard. Has antennas, too. 30' is better than on the
ground. Difference carefully measured in preparation for inevitable
peer review at chapter meeting.

K4CIA worked the P5. Now all the questions about did the P5 work him,
ya, ya, ya...

KO7X reports that KI7WX will be heard on in some upcoming tests using
a low dipole on 20 meters. Whatever happened to the crank-up on the
flatbed truck?

K4QPL said something, but Carnac apparently blanked out at this point
in the meeting.

(The waiter kept bring Carnac more tea, and he may have become
water-logged at this point. Later was treated at Rex for Tea on the
Brain. When regaining consciousness, and asked about K4QPL, wanted to
know hadn't he changed his call to N4 something? So now we know that
the QPL/PQL dyslexia is caused by excessive quantities of sweet tea.
Jim has been dying to figure out how that happens.)

Shortly thereafter, meeting dissolved into miscellaneous BS and
scientific pursuits.

Next meeting Thursday 7 March at Ryan's.
