[Premium-Rx] Longwave Receiver Recommendations

Hello Pat,
even worse here in DL.
Those "smartmeters" will use broadband over powerline.
We know what that means in terms of inhouse EM noise.
Re LW transmitters in France:
RMC on 216kHz has gone off-air.
France Inter on 162kHz is still in use but only as time reference source because
most public clocks make use of it.
It would probably be too costly to change all to GPS references.

Greetings List Members,
Twenty years ago it was mooted that BBC Radio 4 Long Wave on 198kHz would soon close down, which was worrying as I had just built an off air frequency standard using it !
It is still on the air and will be for the foreseeable future. Why you ask ? Because the carrier is phase modulated to signal the timing of the UK "off peak" cheap tariff for "White Meter" electricity.
Until the current, rather disastrous, roll out of the so called new "Smartmeters" (AKA Dumbmeters) that utilise GSM is completed then Radio 4 is rather vital for the continued switching process.
Similarly France Inter on 162kHz provided the same service in France. Strange that the AM programme modulation was switched off years ago but, when I last listened some time ago, the carrier only was still operating.
Both 162kHz and 198kHz were "Frequency Standards". Radio 4 used to be controlled by a local Racal 9475 Rubidium standard, perhaps it is now GPS disciplined ?

Interesting stuff.......
