Hello Charles,
thanks for the info about two different encoders used with the RF-590 and R-2368. Unfortunately Google didn’t find me anything under S85-00001-001, maybe that’s the Harris part number and not the manufactures part number. Any idea who made it?
Today for test purposes I cobbled in an optical encoder from a Rockwell-Collins HF-380 transceiver which I had in my parts drawer and it works. Obviously the encoder in my R-2368 is gone.
However the HF-380 encoder has one step every two degrees (total of 180 per turn). How many steps per turn has the original encoder?
Hans recommended a Honeywell 600128CBL which I is available
on eBay USA, but it would cost about $70 including shipment, customs fee and import tax.

I have owned and serviced both, and I once knew at least the broad outlines of the differences between them -- but alas, no longer. I do recall that one of the differences was the optical encoders. The R-2368 parts list calls out P/N S85-00001-001. The R590 parts list calls out P/N 10073-2075.
