Nick,

I think is part of a DF system that normal operation utilized the an
external sync source. The blinking LEDs are just complaining about the lack
of ext. sync!

I have one here that I purchased from Murphy's long time ago. By the way,
mine has some unusual mechanical filters designed for DF applications.

Subject: [Premium-Rx] Cubic R-3036 dual MF/HF receiver info wanted

At a recent hamfest, I picked up a Cubic R-3036 MF/HF dual receiver as a
$100 gamble. The seller knew nothing about it since it came from an estate.
No manual of course. Some photos are at
http://www.virhistory.com/ham/clt-19.htm#k4nyw

It looks much like the R-3035, but with an IEEE-488 CPU module and a
"Baseband Converter" module instead of the Serial Interface module shown in
the R-3035 brochure. There are B/B outputs on the rear.

I gave it the 60 cycle smoke test and got tantalum smoke out of one
receiver. I hate old tantalum caps! OK - pull that p/s and leave that side
for later.

The other receiver powered up and the controls seem to function as expected,
All the module fault LEDs are off. However, the displayed frequency was
alternating with a display of "REF".

OK, there are REF connectors on the rear, but no internal/external switch
like on the 3030. The Reference/2nd LO module has what looks like a 10 Mhz
TCXO inside so I am puzzled as to why it would require an external reference
- So I hooked up a 10 Mhz signal generator to the REF connector and the
"REF" display quit blinking but the fault LEDs lit up on the synthesizer
modules. Changing the REF input to 1 MHz killed the fault LEDs as well as
the blinking "REF".

So here I am - I have no audio other than some little birdies plus a big
birdie at 0.000 frequency. Where do I go from here? - A manual would be
great. I found the 3035 brochure on Terry's site, but beyond that I am stuck
trying to apply the similarities to the 3030. Any advice/pointers would be
greatly appreciated. Are there any R-3035 owners out there?
Cheers,
Nick England K4NYW
