[Premium-Rx] a new issue i'd like to solve

I have a new to me Prem RX I like a lot,  BUT it has one issue,  even at 
min Volume the AF output is very loud, too loud to be comfortable 
background sound, this condition is the same no matter the the Gain 
rather it's AGC or Manual setting. I checked with one other owner here 
who has the same receiver and he reports the same conditions.  right now 
I'm considering a pad of some sorts where it serves as an audio level 
attenuator, but i haven't solved how to make it near or as seamless as I 
can w/o just being a total outboard device, but in the end Ill take what 
i can get..
