Hi Terry & all,
Sorry about the delay. The WJ-8712P Intermediate Level Maintenance Manual (May 2000 issue) is now on this link on Dropbox:

Hi OJ and Dave thanks for your emails and offers of help.
OJ - given the rarity of the 8712P it is interesting to know that you have one! Also, thanks for offer of photos. I already have good photos of the top and bottom of an 8712P with the covers removed. These don't really show the mechanism of attaching the front panel to the side panels for comparison with the 8712-1. What I really need to see is the front panel removed but that is too much to ask you to do!! If your Intermediate Manual is specifically for the 8712P with a description and circuit of the front panel controller it would be very helpful. I have an Intermediate Manual that covers the 8712-1 and 8712A but it doesn't, of course, give any info about the control panel. I'm not sure if my email service would accept a 9MB file - do you have Dropbox or equivalent method of exchanging large files?
Dave - I was encouraged to bid for this by a mutual friend. He warned me how much to expect the bidding to reach as they are so rarely up for sale. Interesting to know I was competing with you - it was obvious the other bidders knew its value. The 8712-1 seems to have all the connections ready for a 8712P panel. A spare DC power cable with plug was folded back unused. It just need to be unfolded and routed past the PSU to the front panel and the plug fitted to J1. The 8712-1 multi-way ribbon coming from the digital board via the power distribution board to the internal 25 way D connector could be removed and the Multiway from
E1 on the 8712P panel could be fitted to the digital board - assuming it it was supplying the power via the J1 plug.
If all else fails, maybe I should do the same as you and connect the front panel using the internal 25 way D connector. Doing that I could follow your example and arrange switching to control both of my 8712-1s.
Thanks again both
