Hi, Dave. I just joined the list as well, and was surprised to see your
post. I have an STR8212; I've had it for a few years now and it's been a
love/hate relationship. I had lots of trouble with it initially, and it
finally died. I got it out about a year ago and pretty much rebuilt the
power supply. It's not currently in use, but the last few times I hauled
it out, it was working fine. I only know of one other 8212 owner, and that
is probably the gentleman you referenced, G8MOB.

The only complaint I have (aside from crossing my fingers every time it
does a POST) is that the slow AGC setting doesn't work properly. It
attacks just fine and holds the gain properly, but when the station
disappears, the gain slowly goes up way too far, and it's all distortion.
The MID and FAST settings don't do that, but they're not as comfortable to
listen to SSB with.

I don't know what the serial no. of mine is; I seem to recall that it may
be on the boards, but it's not on the chassis. Mine came from a seller in
the Netherlands, and has a sticker inside from a German ham who evidently
messed with it once.

When it's working, it's probably the finest receiver I have ever used.
