[Premium-Rx] WJ-8712-1 Volume Control

I've just mended my WJ-8712-1 and its working well under control of 
RCS32, but I want to connect a loudspeaker in the shack.  When I do this 
its deafening - like the volume is at 100%.

As far as I am aware the volume in the 8711/8712 is a physical pot and 
cannot be controlled in software.

Does anyone have enough of the schematic or know how to patch an AF gain 
control in to the 8712-1 so that it controls the audio amplifier like 
the front panel AF gain control on the 8711 does ? I'm prepared to drill 
a hole in the front panel and fit a pot ...
