I have two 8712-1s and a friend has a third from the same source.
All three have 58 DSP IF bandwidths (max 8kHz) and SSB bandwidths up to 4kHz, even though the roofing filter is 30kHz.
An 8711 from the same source had the same configuration.
The firmware versions are v04.01.01 control and v03.00.01 DSP
I would be interested in changing the DSP firmware to v4.02.03, which I understand is the version normally used with the v04.01.01 control firmware. The DSP installed is 33MHz (DSP56001FE33). I tried to find the board version, but was unable to locate it. Is it printed on the underside? (I don't want to remove the board unless I am sure it is necessary).
Is there any reason why this change of firmware would not work?
thanks,
John G.

I have been playing with the remote only / non front panel versions of the
8711; 8712, 8712-1, 8712A
Most of the 8712A's seem to be configured with 66 DSP IF bandwidths and
there are versions with the 8 KHz roofing filter and 58 DSP IF BW's. The
8712 and 8712-1 often default to 5 IF bandwidths = 0.3, 1.0, 3.2, 6.0, and
16 KHz. This varies by contract.
I have been able to select all of the DSP BW's in the A versions. It appears
that the non A versions are locked to presets. I have been running the
radios with WJ-RCS32, KWST, and ERGO. The results are consistent. So the non
A radios are mainly 5 BW radios?
Best Regards,
Steve
