I would agree with that. It has the advantage of being easy to remove - 
and no need to roughen anything - just cleanliness.

A couple of layers of neatly-cut bicycle inner tube make an acceptable 
'emergency' knob rubber when carefully stretched and positioned.

I have also used several 'O' rings close together - which looks more 
professional.
