Thanks so much for your sympathetic reply to my inquiry. I have received a
couple replies via email from other thoughtful members that provided
suggestions and a source that had not come to mind during my rather
extensive research for this item last week. I too, agree with your
aforementioned thoughts concerning the future of H.F. use but I do believe
that there will always be a need for communications within that spectrum. I
doubt that you have raised the ire of other group members since there are
still many members out there that covet their boat anchors but also keep in
touch with the present and future of this wonderful world of radios. I have
also run the gamut over the years with many R-390As, WJ-8716s and 8718s, as
well as an WJ-8711A not to mention countless other models in between. In
fact, I still possess a 51S-1 that performs admirably although not up to
today`s more modern standards, of course.

Many thanks again for your time and thoughts and I will prod on in my search
for the LCD display and hope for eventual success.
