Dear John
I was saddened to read your piece regarding the failed display for your
WJ-8626 receiver but I was not altogether surprised. Display failure and a
general lack of parts is the ultimate fate of all PR hi-tek receivers.
At the risk of incurring the wrath of other members I have to mention that
the golden oldie sets such as the RA17, R390A, 51S-1 etc, despite their many
limitations, have no such display issues!! They will keep going long after
most of our lovely PR radios have given up the ghost provided that the
existing large stocks of tubes do not disappear and/or the film scales
(where appropriate) do not disintegrate.
However, by then there may not be a great deal of interest to listen to
anyway on the BC and SW bands, what with the general migration of
broadcasting to FM, digital, satellite and cable, not to mention the
increased levels of RF pollution caused mainly by all our wonderful new
electronics. Irony compounded.

Subject: [Premium-Rx] LCD Readout Display for WJ-8628 Receiver
Good evening to one and all -
I have not been too active as of late in the group but then again, the group
hasn`t been that active lately, either. I do check once a day for new posts,
etc. however. I will now post my problem in hopes that someone will be able
to contribute some info or lead me to a source for a replacement LCD Readout
Display for my WJ-8628 receiver. I have searched in vain for close to a week
and have exhausted every source that I can think of - and - a few that I
hadn`t initially thought of. Does anyone out there have one of these LCD
displays available that they would be willing to part with ? A new one
would be fine but a used one with some remaining life and decent readability
would be great, too. Kindly give a yell via my email address and state
price, etc. and I will reply post-haste. Thanks so much and very best
regards to all.
........... John.
