Hi Peter and all other Groop members,

Something more to add: when You make experimenting Peter with carbon compos. resistors in overload condition, even the smoke produced and they change their value that is happened in real life, but not so often. Mostly those resistors working well very long period of time. During this period they  very slowly moved away from their value and that is happened because all of this like ageing of carbon/clay materials, moisture inside accumulating and leads oxidation (especially for smaller size) mixed in one bucket. I think we can do nothing with this. Normally tolerance 20 percent away not so dangerous, but in some critical circuits simply need to replace them fith more stable type's. Many available now.

Company's who produce this type of resistors they know well that problem and make special military, special application composition resistors with yellow ring on them, but they moved away too... In my REGCO RG-5500 many of them...But that is not a problem. Main problem there poor designe of VCO A2O/A21 Oscillators...

All the best for all,

Boris
