I bought one of those boards as well, just for those nice blue Rockwell-Collins mechanical filters!

Using the Hakko Model 808 desoldering tool, all six filters were flawlessly removed in well under ten minutes. On many radios that solder in these filters, the pins are trimmed to a very short length after installation. On the Racal A24 board, the filter pins are left at full length allowing them to be more easily used in other - especially plug-in - applications.

I resisted buying a Hakko desoldering tool for years, even though friends would tell me it was one of the best tools they ever bought. I finally broke down and bought one a couple of years ago. After the experience with the Racal board filter removal, I can state unequivocally: The Hakko 808 is one of the best tools I have ever bought!

For the record, I bought the Hakko Model 808 desoldering tool with the matching Hakko 633 base.
