Boris,
>From your side of the pond you probably can't see how Regco was a small
competitor among bigger fish. It was started by Ralph E Grimm as a grudge
match with Watkins-Johnson after Dick Johnson demoted him and forced him
out of the facility he founded.

The RG-5500 was supposed to be Regco's entry in the competition for the
next generation of VHF/UHF surveillance receivers but it wasn't finished
until well after WJ had been awarded the contract. It never sold well.
The company was small and struggled throughout its history. Thus the
documentation they produced was meager compared to better financed
competitors.

Because Regco was a Ralph Grimm venture, it is safe to say he continued
the dash number system he started at Nems-Clarke and carried through CEI
and WJ. The dash numbers signify the radio has minor modifications or
configuration changes to meet the needs of a specific agency contracting
for the purchase. Occasionally, the changes are significant, as when the
RS-111 became the RS-111-1B-12, but that is uncommon.

So the RG-5500-1 is likely to be nearly identical to the RG-5500.
