Richard,
Racal used the 8290A presettable decade counter in the early RA1772s, and
one of the mods was to replace them with a 74LS196 because they were much
more reliable at high temperatures. Perhaps you might find a pin compatible
74LSxxx that matches the 8293. I have some old 8290As but no 8293s.

Subject: [Premium-Rx] 8293 counter chip
Hello all.
Maybe a little off topic, but the life of a premium receiver (or two)
depends on it...
I have been trying to find data for a 8293 binary counter, and also a source
of the device. Its quite common in older premium receivers (in particular
WJ).
Managed to find the datasheets after a major and lengthy trawl using Google
- but no obvious source for the part.
Does anyone know a source accessible from the UK - or a readily available
equivalent?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Richard
