The Watkins-Johnson and Black Radios websites have been rewritten,
recoded and are starting to expand. It's taken 18 months longer than I
expected to wrestle my ancient, ignorant html into a more organized form.
Black Radios finally gives all the non-WJ material a proper home. The
revamped Watkins-Johnson site begins to clarify the distinction between
the popular branches of WJ (CEI) on the East Coast
(Gaithersburg-Rockville-Bethesda-Savage-Fuquay Varina) that made the
radios we love and WJ corporate on the West Coast (Palo Alto-Santa
Cruz-San Jose-Santa Barbara...) which made many things, some of interest
to radio hobbyists.
The Watkins-Johnson corporate (West Coast) material will expand over
time. In particular, there seems to be a lot of demand for information
on WJ devices from Palo Alto and Santa Barbara as well as WJ ELINT
systems from San Jose.
Some of the new things you'll find on the sites:
Improved and more uniform navigation.
Expanded coverage of radio manufacturers.
Additional historical essays and information.
Sharper perspectives on many aspects of this equipment gleaned from my
research which is extensive and dwarfs the contents of the site (a book
is in the works)
A few specific new things:
A one page guide to a sampling of US radio receiver manufacturers who
sold surveillance and countermeasures radios to government agencies.

A short page for General Electronics Laboratories and six extremely rare
manuals for their surveillance and telemetry receivers and spectrum
displays:

These documents were loaned to me by a young man on the East Coast who
knows nothing about radio but found me through the web site. More
pictures of his collection of radios and some history of the company
will follow.
Two manuals for Micro-Tel receivers.

I have many more documents waiting to be scanned and posted. I am also
receiving historical information and will eventually create a Micro-Tel
page.
My apologies for the long delay and the period of messed up pages. You
may still find small pockets of dead links and outdated pages. Managing
a web site isn't my version of fun, but as old TV stations used to say,
"We are experiencing technical difficulties and are working on the
problem." (If anyone knows why my navigation tables won't collapse
properly around the text, specifically on the Black Radios navigation
table, please let me know. For me, coding html is like going to the
dentist)
