Dear Steve

Further to my earlier posting today I have now extracted the WJ data sheet
on the WJ-8712P. Its panel is very much smaller than the full 19 inches of
the 8711 and to me it looks awkward to use. I would prefer the full width
and height of the 8711 but I guess one does not exist.

In his many constructive words on the HF1000 and WJ-8711, the site of Dave
N9EWO dissects these receivers and their various improvements with much care
and precision and comments on the harsh sound and distortion caused by the
DSP especially in the presence of static, the audio buzzes above 15 MHz, the
considerable radiation emitted by the radio and the consequent requirement
to have the antenna far away from the receiver and fed with good screened
cable, and the weird audio noises resembling "disturbed bees".

Have these serious problems been eradicated in whole or in part in the
WJ-8712P?

I ask because my RA1792 has developed similar "disturbed bees" noises below
1MHz (possibly the result from failed tantalums decoupling the switching
voltage regulators) and it drives me nuts. I consider that tonal purity is
very important and any such distortion, hum, gurgles and the like are not on
and can largely be eliminated with careful engineering effort.
