The Ralph E. Grimm Co. (Regco) RG-5500 was built by the same Ralph Grimm
who founded Communication Electronics, Inc. He started Regco after he
was forced out of CEI a few years after WJ purchased his company.

The radio was built to compete for government contracts with the WJ-8617
(plain, not A or B). The prototype was not complete by the end date of
the competition and it did not win. It was subsequently produced only
in small numbers. I covered this competition in detail in the November
2010 issue of Popular Communications.

The RG-5500 was built by Racal in Rockville, MD under contract to
Regco. Regco was purchased by Racal after Ralph Grimm died of a heart
attack.

If you find a manual, I'd love to see a copy. Most of these companies
never slowed down long enough to get patents. It is interesting to see
how circuit ideas simply migrated from company to company inside the
heads of engineers.
