[Premium-Rx] Antenna question

Hello,
There is not intereraction at all between both antennas, when I want more signal I switch to the 100LN.
I must confess that use the 330S most of the time, it is an amazing antenna itself, as I said before it offers 'for my ears' a full rich sound and although the gain on MW and LW has been reduced the reception in these bands is very good, I can listen what I want.
What I meant to say with 'bright side' is that the 100LN offers a sound with more treble
which is great for listening weak signals. It acts like a narrow filter, signals pop out of the noise making them understable, meanwhile in the 330S the signal is in the mud.
Ron, I strongly recommend the link below there you can listen the 1530L against other antennas:
http://www.fenu-radio.ch/index11.htm#ALA1530L_-_Fenu-Loop-HDLA3
Regarding the 100LN, the box that contains the electronics is on the base of the antenna, I have enclosed it in a metal box in order to avoid rain and sun.
After trying many configurations, shapes and lenght, the present 2x2 square works the best for me, it can be used upto 20m circunference wire loop.
There is another model, ALA 100M, that uses a smaller loop configuration 3-10m.
Here the link of Wellbrook:
http://www.wellbrook.uk.com/antennashop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=48
Just to say that there are two Wellbrook forums on yahoo groups where you can get plenty of information:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wellbrookloops/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ala1530/?yguid=146039116
Maybe other members of the group can recommend other kind of antennas that could work for you.
Kind Regards

Enrique -- I'm interested in loop antennas for MW and 80m DXing and your message was useful. In particular the 100LN seems the better of the two antennas you have and it's not too large for my use. However, I don't see any FET amplifier box in the images you posted -- where is it? Also, what did you mean by the 100LN is on the "bright side"?
Thanks, Ron

Hello,
I also recommend Wellbrook antennas, they reduce dramatically the man made noise. I have a 330S and a 100LN, for my taste the 330S gives a a rich full sound I mainly use it for strong and medium power stations. However the 100LN it is on the bright side, very good for very weak signals and it can be easy to identify a station this not happen with the 330S since the station is almost unintelligible buried in the noise.
I have also to say that the 330S it is 1 meter of diameter and my 100LN it is 2x2m (you can make your own loop size).

Hello Nigel,
Thank you for the kind words. Now living in rural Wales (I guess I should be
GW3PCY) and doing a lot more postal history research than radio, I
nevertheless do read the postings on premium receivers with pleasure.
I still think that the AR-7030 is one of the great receivers (once you
master the menu system) and coupled to a Wellbrook loop it's hard to beat in
our modern noise-ridden environment. I am my own worst enemy, using a
"Homeplug" system as a domestic network, but the loop does a good job of
rejecting the E-field noise. It also helps to be living in rural
surroundings....!

Hi John,
Not sure that "surprised" is the quite right word but given that you did
seem to drop off the radar a bit, pleased and relieved to hear you're still
ok might be more appropriate:-)

Gents
A propos John's offering tonight, I have a Wellbrook Loop mounted three
floors up on the roof and I can attest to its excellence right down to
VLF.
If it does intermodulate, it certainly does not show it.
By way of example the strongest station here on LW is Radio 4 on 198 kHz
which booms in at around 10 - 15mV PD, and Radio 5 Live is a litle
stronger
on 909kHz, yet weak signals just 9kHz away are not affected.
It picks up less absolute RF than a long wire but a hell of a lot less
noise, so the S+n/n is excellent.
The Loop also exhibits about 30dB directivity when exactly broadside and
that is useful if you mount it on a rotator.
