The best "bang for the buck" in SDR is definitely the SoftRock Lite IF rcvr kit. You can even have these built for yourself, if desired, by many builders available on the web. I stumbled through the building process myself but it was quite the strain on old eyes and shaky hands. I ordered 4 for 455kc IF and 4 for 500kc IF outputs and still consider it the best radio investment I've ever made.

Generally speaking it is always best to use the lowest IF frequency available from your receiver for the sampling and conversion to I&Q.

The SoftRock Lite IF rcvr brings new life and performance to vintage gear, adding many features unavailable on the old pieces.
