My 2 cents: SDR receivers (e.g. Softrock) I and Q output is analog. It goes
to the PC soundcard, where at first it gets sampled. At this point you have
a digital I/Q stream. Then it enters a DSP for filtering/demodulation. All
this happens in the soundcard board.
If you start from digital I/Q, you don't need the initial sampling. The
experiment would be to send the digital data to a DSP directly. Things to
consider are: speed of the digital stream (samples per second), data format
(16bits?), sync and clock. These allow to choose a DSP platform with the
correct architecture. If all the signals and data are on the same line, some
kind of hardware is required to separate them into individual lines, or
maybe this could be done by the DSP as well with proper software.
