Greetings to all.
While I was thumbing through Fred Osterman's third edition of Shortwave
Receivers Past & Present, the receiver presented on page 267 caught my eye.
It's a MACKAY RADIO SYSTEMS, Inc. model MSR5090.
The picture shows what I think is a very intriguing and nice-looking
receiver. Apparently this DSP receiver is a "black box" variety which, in
order to look like the one in the picture, has a MSR6490 controller serving
as its front panel. The controller apparently uses a single, large LCD
screen to display all its operating parameters.
I wanted to find out more, so I hopped on the Internet and searched. Came up
empty-handed, even after multiple search attempts. Tracked the acquisition
of Mackay all the way to Thomson-CSF and Thales Group, but I could not find
any info about this receiver on those websites, either.
I then thought that there has probably been some mention of this receiver on
the Premium-Rx list, so, to the best of my ability, I searched the archives
back to the group's inception, also with no luck. Found a billion mentions
of 3031s, 5050s, etc., but no 5090s.
So now, this receiver seems to be a mystery!
Does any group member have any information on this receiver? Anybody own
one, or have owned one, or have spent hands-on time with one? Anybody even
seen one in person? Anybody have any comments at all on this mysterious (to
me, at least) receiver?
