Although the RA1772 has a final IF of 1.4MHz, it should be possible to build
an outboard crystal oscillator and mixer to convert to 455kHz, using perhaps
an SBL-1 or a 1496 as the mixer.
Racal made several vaved converters to convert 100kHz to 455kHz and vice
versa using the old 6AS6 gated mixer and I think a pentode oscillator. I
have here a highly complicated more modern converter (which looks distinctly
ex-Admiralty) to do the same with a high level diode quad mixer, and so
doing the same for 1.4MHz should be relatively straightforward.
