  The connector area on the back of the A6A1 board was used for certain 
remote control options on the non MFP version of this radio.  According to 
my manual dated 7/83 there are at least 5 different versions of this board. 
In reality , there are probably quite a few more.  I've seen serial numbers 
on this radio at least into the high 5 digits.  I've seen a few remote 
controllers that look like a stripped 8718 inside.  I think the model was in 
the 9644 family.  If this radio is not an A model get the battery off that 
board.  That battery is famous for corroding the board.  The A models 
mounted the battery on the back of the radio under a little bracket.

WJ describes that card as Manual Tuning Up/Down Counter.

Hope this undoes some of the mystery.
