The EK895/96 is the successor to the analog EK890 now with DSP

The next generation was the XK 2100 and XK4100 transceiver with a totally
new and better DSP/AGC.

I have tasked R&S to upgrade the EK895/6 to the same top level. The Phase
noise is about 3 dB worse then the E1800 (word record, $ 50 000 new) but
the AGC and filters are poor compared to the R&S...

I have given OJS 1 set of EPROMs, it takes maybe 30 min to upgrade. I had
my 3 EK895 and 1 EK 896 upgraded, and these radios now are the only RXs
with an accurate S meter starting at S1. This is disillusioning for other RX
owners. The IP3 ant 7 MHz is about 42 dBm and to my knowledge the best RX on
the market.

The problem is nobody sells one of those and new they are the best and
expensive.

I have both the 890 and the 895, guess what ? The 895/6 is dramatically
better in HiFi, AGC response and filter (special CW and SSB filters and data
filters, the best of both world

Best regards, Ulrich L. Rohde, N1UL / DJ2LR

Subject: [Premium-Rx] EK895 RECEIVER INFO REQUESTED

Greeting All,

I am investigating the Rohde & Schwarz EK895 dsp receiver and would be
grateful for some information please.

1. When were they first produced? c.1993 or later?

2. Any idea of the Firmware Revision numbers against the receiver
manufacturing date?

3. Are there "Early" and "Late" models? Similar to the WJ HF1000/WJ
8711A scenario?

4. Would "Early" production models be upgradeable to the current version
or are there subtle hardware changes that prevent this being possible?

If you do not ask you do not get and I really am hitting a brick wall on
these questions.

I know that there are EK895 cognoscenti lurking out there! Please
contact offline.

Many thanks,

Pat G3YFK
