Shane,
I run my R-9000 from an Astron 12V power supply. The radio much cooler
now. If you do this, make sure to adjust the supply to actually put out
12V and not the 13.8V as from the factory.
Sherwood has filter mods for the R-9000 as well, but I've had very good
luck with the existing filters.
73's,

Subject: [Premium-Rx] Icom R9000
Lately I've often heard praise about the IC-R9000 and apart from the
following two issues, I haven't heard of any other concerns -
1. Generates excessive heat
2. AM selectivity is only 3Kc, 9Kc and 15Kc
Is there anyone in this group who would recommend that I avoid buying
an IC-R9000? Is there any proof that excessive heat causes damage?
(I'm aware of Sherwood's cooling fan mod but I'd rather not tolerate
the additional noise). I could live without the 6Kc bandwidth and the
coverage to 2GHz would be nice. Is the HF performance compromised at
all?
If I were to travel down the Icom path, a tough decision would be
whether to spend $3K on an ICR9000 or probably $4K on an IC7600 when
it is released, although the 9000 WITHOUT DSP may be the wiser choice.
Thanks,
Shane.
