[Premium-Rx] Icom R9000

Lately I've often heard praise about the IC-R9000 and apart from the
following two issues, I haven't heard of any other concerns -
1. Generates excessive heat
2. AM selectivity is only 3Kc, 9Kc and 15Kc
Is there anyone in this group who would recommend that I avoid buying
an IC-R9000? Is there any proof that excessive heat causes damage?
(I'm aware of Sherwood's cooling fan mod but I'd rather not tolerate
the additional noise). I could live without the 6Kc bandwidth and the
coverage to 2GHz would be nice. Is the HF performance compromised at
all?
If I were to travel down the Icom path, a tough decision would be
whether to spend $3K on an ICR9000 or probably $4K on an IC7600 when
it is released, although the 9000 WITHOUT DSP may be the wiser choice.
Thanks,
Shane.
