Hi:

Super Caps have a limited memory hold up time, maybe a month or so.

Rechargeable batteries tend to have a fast discharge time, for conventional 
Ni-MH they will be dead in 3 months.  It's also not a good idea to try and use 
a DC trickle charge since it greatly shortens their life.

Primary batteries have the longest shelf life and since memory hold up draws 
very little current this is the key thing to look at.  Alkaline cells will last 
  a few years, but primary Lithium batteries can last well over 10 years.
