Good evening gents,

I think I have the answer to Dave's question regarding the Plessey PR2280
series. The following is taken from the manual:

PRS 2280 is the overall series.

The PRS 2282 is the stand alone receiver with all the modules and knobs, -
ie what we all want - but to confuse everyone, the front panels on all
models are marked (top right) "PRS 2280".

The PRS 2281 is the remote-control only version of the PRS 2282. It is
fitted with a non-local control front panel (Module J). Control of this
receiver can only be exercised via the remote interface of Module H, but the
audio gain control and audio selector switch are retained on the front panel
for local control of audio signals.

The PRS 2283 is a slave receiver for local operation with a PRS2282 master
receiver, usually mounted in a rack or cabinet directly above or below the
2282. It is fitted with a non-local control front panel (Module J) but is
not fitted with Module F (the frequency standard and the 1st and 2nd LOs).
This is because these frequency injections are obtained by external cabling
from outputs on the master receiver, in the normal master/slave set up.
Like the 2281, all it has on its front panel is the loudspeaker, the speaker
switch (off/USB/LSB), the audio gain and the headphone socket. The rest of
the panel is empty space, so not much chance of confusing them!

I hope this helps. If any one is desperate, I have the complete factory
alignment and test manual as well as the usual handbook, but I am not
parting with them as they are so rare.

BTW, the only in-depth review I know of was by John Wilson in Short Wave
Magazine, October 1998.
