Hello Folks,
I'm hoping someone can give me some help here.
I own a Racal 6790 GM, which is in good working order (passes BITE test).
However, in the last day or so the frequency readout LCD has failed - at
least intermittently.
So, some questions - would be grateful for any help:
1) Is this a common problem with this receiver? The display works correctly
intermittently, but usually displays a screen looking rather like this
'8888888888888888' - I wouldn't say it's 'bleeding' as such, the 8's are all
sharp and clear. Ocassionally they fade into the background and they true
frequency displays - also sharp. But most of the time, the display is
unreadable. Is this likely to be just the display faulty, or a more
underlying fault?
2) I live in the UK - Aylesbury. Can anyone suggest a person/company who
might be able to undertake a repair in the UK? Unfortunately, I don't have
the expertise to replace the LCD myself really - can handle a soldering
iron, but think this might be above my capabilities. Would it be a very
simple replacement? Or best to try a professional?
3) Where could I source a replacement LCD display for the 6790? This is, of
course, in the event that I can find someone to fix it, but they don't have
the correct part.
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
