Whilst I agree that copyright should be respected, some/many US export  
restrictions are inconsistent, and often just silly.
 
As just one example, I've seen US sellers refusing to export spares for the  
Cubic 3030 receiver to the UK, on the grounds that export is prohibited, even  
though the receiver itself was sold into the UK and has been available  here 
surplus for some time.
 
I can even remember when the Commodore Pet was on a list of banned exports  
in case the Russians got hold of all this ultra high technology that they  
couldn't possibly have worked out for themselves.
 
>From what I remember, their copies, despite the restrictions, weren't too  
bad:-)
