Hello Ben,

I can address the first and last paragraphs.

1) I have sealed NiCd replacement kits for your 8618B-(S1). They fit the in
the original "C" bracket. Comes with tubing and instructions. The battery is
located under the top cover near the front panel directly behind the Dwell
control. You un solder the old battery and solder the new one in it's place.
My batteries are epoxy sealed NiCd units that do not leak. I will say this
again: Many folks install other batteries that do not meet the original WJ
requirements. There are several very good reasons to replace the old battery
with an upgraded industrial NiCd. I keep finding junk batteries in radios
that I work on and replace them. Remember that depending on installation
type it can get very hot inside the case. Many radios are also left un
powered for long periods of time. Without getting into a discussion on
battery physics a sealed NiCd is the right choice.

Contact me off line if you want to buy a kit.

2) A sound card will have a typical impedance range of 10K to 20K ohms
depending on manufacturer. You can match the lines if you want. Why not
adjust the line output pot down to 1V p-p or are you already at the lower
limit?

Best Regards,
Steve
