Hi Keith,

John Collins here----------

I've seen a few 3040's go by and everyone who purchased one was sorely disappointed. This unit is not a stand-alone SWL/Premium-RX....it requires some undefined system into which the 3040 plugs and then it does something, although no one is sure what. If you can buy one for around $100, it makes a fabulous project box and will have a few bullet-proof modules in it.

Word had it recently that a LOT sold outright to surplus by the gumment had at least one board missing from each unit.

If you really want to go Cubic for an HF rx, get hold of a R3030A or R3030.

The 3030A has convenient rear panel connectors for audio, COR, meter, etc. Typical filter load is 0.5/1/3.2/6 KHz while the 3030 has military rear panel connectors and filter load of: 0.5/1/2/4/8KHz.

While these rx's have a few issues when considered in the context of HF monitoring (headset, long hours, weak signals), these rx's are of a semi-discrete construction enabling us amatures to work on them. A few simple mods and you got a great HF MDS-hunter.

  Hello All,
I've got a chance to aquire a Cubic R-3040 receiver.
Unfortunately, I can't find any info on this receiver on the internet.
If anyone has experience with them, comments, or would care to hazzard a guess for value for a clean working receiver, I'd be very appreciative.

  All the best,
  Keith, ve3ts
