Hi Stephan,
I have worked for years with Turbo PASCAL writing code for GPIB (IEEE-488)
control for my lab test equipment, and also for control and data acquisition
using the PC parallel port. I have found it very easy to use and get going.
You can also incorporate C code into it if you want parts to run
particularly efficiently. Turbo PASCAL runs under DOS, with the usual
limitations of DOS. However there is a new version called Free PASCAL, which
runs under Windows and does not have these limitations. It is almost fully
backward compatible with Turbo PASCAL, and is available for free download
off the Net. Also, there is a book called "Serial Port Complete" by Axelson
which tells you everything you need about writing code to control the serial
port. Hope this helps.
Regards,
George Georgevits
