Hi guys,
Been reading this list for a while and have decided to introduce
myself:
I'm Tim Shoppa, KA0BTD. Been involved in radios and electronics
for 30 years now. Heavily active in ham radio in the 70's and early 80's,
but college and grad school got in the way and only now am I getting
back to actually using radios again.
   My "premium-rx" is a WJ-8716 bought on the E-place a few months
back. Also 2xR-390A's in various stages of repair/disrepair/rearrangement/
rebuild. And a lot of misc ham gear from the 60's and 70's. Mostly I've
been SWL'ing in the past couple years but also getting back into CW
ops on 40M and 20M.
On the edge of radios my interests also include precision time
and frequency sources and homebrew frequency synthesizers of every
vintage and style... whether they be a 400MHz DDS locked to GPS
or a PLL built out of 12AU7's and referenced to some tuning forks.
Relation to premium-rx: my WJ-8716 is phase-locked to GPS via a
Z3801A and it's 10MHz OCXO and a little divider box.
Through the 80's and 90's I got heavily involved in real-time
process control but the computer aspect got to the point where it's
not a thing to do for fun but it is something I do for my "day
job" (running a $10Billion peripheral from underneath Washington DC.)
I still occasionally dabble in microcontrollers when necessary to
play with my radios but prefer to stay away from coding where
reasonable.

Tim.
