Fellow Members:
Over the years of the Premium-Rx List there have been a number of posts
concerning the safety of members. I remember a tornado went right
through a neighboring town of John Bryant, and there have been numerous
wind storms that have taken down the antennas of some of our members. I
thought we would read about a member that was involved by the floods
from Katrina, but we evidently dodged that bullet. Well, I am saddened
to announce that one of our esteemed members is breaking up perhaps the
largest receiver collections known to exist.
Most members have seen posts by Ben Wallace, a charter member of the
Premium-Rx List. Ben was given the affectionate alias of 'money bags
Wallace' years ago based on his incurable lust for buying receivers (I
personally counted over 200+ in his herd, including a pair of 2050s,
2X590s, and who knows how many Racals, WJs, etc. ). Many of these are
contemporary Premiums, while the remainder were considered Premium when
real radios glowed. Some are NIB and almost all have an original
manual. There was a rumor going around that Smithsonian wanted to have
the collection bequeathed, but Ben quashed that by informing the
Institute he doesn't plan on dying.
Well, old 'money bags' is about to make news headlines. You see, Ben
has threatened to 'thin his herd' a number of times in the past, but
never took any action because of the fear that such a flood of receivers
on the free market might cause a feeding frenzy. This in return would
upset the world's economy (you know; trade deficit, etc.). Call it
economic diplomacy at the grass roots level, but it seems Ben Wallace
has been silently doing his thing at the big auction block in the sky.
I took the liberty of checking Qualcomm's stock and it seems to be
holding its value (Ben is involved in new product called MediaFLO at
Qualcomm, if you haven't heard about M-FLO you will in a few years) so
he can't be hurting for income? Perhaps the selling action is based on
an increase in tuition at his daughter's university? Is it the IRS and
April 15th? Maybe he is just becoming financially conservative; after
all he's halfway to centurionhood.
*Ben*, .... this is to tell you that many of your fellow List members
have been concerned by your recent actions, especially that you may be
suffering from *RPPS* (*R*eceiver *P*ost-*P*artum *S*yndrome). Let us
know if you need intervention? As your support group, your friends are
ready to assist in these times of stress- just call us and we will back
up our pick-ups and haul off that old hardware.
We understand Ben, at times like this solitude is desired, so there is
no need to respond-
Greg
