I received several emails in regards to SE-3 Selectable Sideband
feature asking for the Circuit and PSN details. I will be
drawing the circuit diagram tomorrow and email it out in PDF
format. In the meantime, I would like to suggest that you
take a look at Philips Semiconductors Application Notes,
specifically " AN1981 " which will show you the concept and
idea behind 90 Degree Phase Shifting and Phasing Method
Detection. Take a close look at Figure 13 and Figure 18.
This Application Note is good to have handy when building the
circuit just to keep refreshing your memory about what gets
connected to where as SA602 is the main ingredient there.
In the meantime I would like to advise the source of the PSN:
It is a Sony Hybrid. The Ordering Number is: 146440711 and
can be purchased from Herman Electronics hermanelectronics.com
They are listing it for $ 39.00 last I checked today. It is
certainly a bit pricy but if a few people get together maybe
they will offer a volume discount. I would also be interested
in ordering more. It is not cheap for sure !...
For those who would like to build the PSN, a circuit is available
in the AN1981 Figure 15. But I am lazy so I paid the price and
bought the PSN.
Also, in the meantime you should start locating the 12VDC voltage
regulator attached to the back panel of the unit on SE-3 as well
as checking the PCB where the SA602 socket is located. Also get
familiar with the Pinouts of NE/SA602 ( from Philips Web site ).
You need to locate IF Signal In, Oscillator In, Audio Out, Power
pins as we need those.
Most Expensive part in the circuit is the PSN and the SA602, the
rest you will find in your junkbox.
More to come tomorrow.
Regards
Ahmet
