Hi
Although I am not intimately familiar with the 8711, I have noticed that the
WJ receivers in general seem to be set up so that everything can look OK,
but the rx has a fault of some sort. That is, the front panel will display
everything ok, the control system echoes/acknowleges commends back to the
front panel (or remote `controller), yet some of the digital data in the RF
or synthesizer boards is not toggling properly. If you hear static, may I
suggest you sweep the full bandwidth of the receiver, listening for any
response...if indeed you are receiving some fixed frequency, that info is
valuable in trouble shooting.
good luck
John Collins
