[Premium-Rx] WJ 8711A trouble shooting question

Hello to group,

I kind of had a 8711A fall into my lap however upon further investigation I
can't receive anything just static. All the front panel functions seems to
work and the BIT test passes.  My first question is before I go thru the
signal chain with a generator I wanted to make sure the firmware is not
causing a problem -  that is its all compatible. The front panel EPROM has
version 1.21 and the control firmware is 3.00.01 and I couldn't see the DSP
Prom.  I don't know any history of the radio and judging from the software
versions outlined in the manual this firmware is a little old.  For the
group who own this radio, should I be inquiring about an upgrade? Any quick
and dirty test before I bring out the generator? Any comments would be
greatly appreciated.
