Fellow Members:

The Premium-Rx List receives approximately three applications for
membership each week. When a person demonstrates they meet our
membership requirements, we add their name to the server and they start
receiving our post.

In the past it was our policy to announced the name of each new member
and often included some information about the individual and his
interest in the area of receivers. Unfortunately, we determined a
non-member was gathering the new individuals information from our
archives and then contacting them off line in an effort to sell
fraudulent equipment/receivers. Once we established he was contacting
our members, we had to discontinue announcing the names of new members,
a policy we follow to this day. I need to also add that this
non-member was in fact a member of the List at one time, however, his
membership was revoked because he was posting items for sale on the
List, a violation of policy at the time.

Approximately two weeks ago this 'non-member', who holds a German
amateur license but has used addresses both inside and outside of his
country, again applied for Premium-Rx membership. He was denied. I
state this as a reminder to all members that this individual is still
active in the area of premium receivers and as such is probably still
active in finding buyers.

E-Bay, its operation, items being offered and purchased, is considered
off topic for this List. Recently, many of you have noted some very
high end receivers being offered at what I would consider remarkably low
prices (Collins 2050 just sold for $401US). We have received two
e-mails from members that have purchased receivers via E-Bay and have
not received the auction item. Each of these persons report excellent
communication up to the point were funds were exchange, then nothing.
In these cases, payment was made via bank check and Western Union. Both
receivers were offered using England as the items location, this was
later found to be false.

_The objective of this announcement is not to start a long thread
regarding the Pros and Cons of E-Bay_. However, List members are again
reminded that our non-member has apparently rekindled his interest in
Premium-Rx and members are encouraged to be very skeptical about E-Bay
premium radios or rare accessories - especially if being offered at no
minimum bid, limited or very short auction times, few sales or not shown
ID, and so on.

Of course it goes without saying that E-Bay works on a /caveat emptor/
basis, so before dropping a lot of money on anything it is useful to do
everything you can to verify the legitimacy of the seller. Even this
suggestion isn't 100% protection as at least one of our members had his
E-Bay ID hijacked. Needless to say his previously sterling feedback
rating dropped dramatically.

On a lighter note: As I type this e-mail the sun is setting out my
California window, yet I know some of you are reading this where it is
already Saturday. Where ever you are on this planet, have a great
...... and safe ...... weekend.
