[Premium-Rx] WJ 8618B S1 receiver problems

[Royce, Alan (Space Technology)]

When turning on the AFC, the frequency read out goes crazy with  + or -
digits, on FM 100.1 MHz+ or -  800 kHz.
 Has anyone seen this before?

Start up is okay. I can get it to display the model and version . I can
cause it to tune from zero to 1200 MHz.
Will the bite test give me any other information? Changing to the
function and depressing the bite key. Nothing happens. S1 model, no bite
card installed.
