Dan Rae seems to think that "I recently bought one of these interesting 
receivers, which incidentally, must qualify as one of the earliest, if not 
the earliest Premium Rx, (Vintage late 1978) only to discover that it has 
lost one of the firmware eprom contents, and is thus totally dead, in other 
words an ex-radio."

The WJ-8940B designed circa 1975 uses a DEC PDP-K11F as it's controller and 
who knows what other Rxs lurk out there that may have been designed before 
that (The WJ 8940B originally used magnetic core store for volatile values 
the later models used SRAM + EEPROM - 1984)
