Much appreciate the hints re: the CRT, Kevin. This one is legible from a
short distance, but comfortable to view only in a dark environment. If it
were twice as bright, it would still appear a bit on the dim side.
I did verify that the brightness and beam current trimpots were maxed out.
I'd be surprised if a portable-TV CRT would use the same tube -- it appears
to have a P1, P31, or similar green oscilloscope-style phosphor. (Or maybe
that's just the green filter in front of the tube... hmm, I didn't think
about that.)
I will verify that the HV/filament voltages are correct once the service
manuals arrive from the UK, then (assuming they are normal) I'll write you
off-list for details on your spare-tube offer. Thanks again!
