Frank and Warren recently mentioned here using the Racal RA6830 below 500KHz.
What is involved in doing this? Does the RA6830 use similar software chips
as the RA6790? I know you can get the 9666 set of 3 EPROM chips from Gary
Wingerd that allows tuning the RA6790 below 500KHz. Those are so nice to have I
just wouldn't even want to use a 6790 without being able to tune below 500KHz.
Can one install the same chips in the 6830 or do you have to have ones made up
special? I see it looks like the 6830 uses the same type and size of I.F.
crystal or Collins mechanical I.F. filters as used in the 6790. There must be many
similarities between the 2 series. Someday I would like to try a 6830 but
wouldn't want to put the money in one unless I could enable it to tune below
500KHz. Looks like a nice little half-rack receiver. 73 Todd WD4NGG
